Description
This Extra-Wide zoom lens covers the equivalent of 25-75mm, making it a great lens for general photography as well as for wide angle shots. The bright, top class optical system and quiet Hyper Sonic Motor ensure that images are detail packed, colourful and freed from aberrations. Plus the Optical Staibilisation gives you an extra four stops of shooting in low light.
Bright, Constant Maximum Aperture
As is commonplace in Sigma’s flagship EX lens range, the widest aperture of f2.8 is constant through the entire zoom range, allowing you to make the most of the full aperture range whilst zooming, especially useful in Av Mode. This wider aperture, as well as keeping images free from shake in low light, can give pleasing portraits with soft backgrounds, helped by the rounded 7-blade diaphragm.
Optical Image Stabilisation
The Optical Stabilisation (OS) function of this lens will give you an extra four stops as light levels fall, particularly useful in combination with the fast f2.8 aperture.
Fantastic Optical Performance
The Sigma 17-50mm EX lens makes use of two FLD lenses (“F Low Dispersion”) – This material has the low refractive index and low dispersion qualities of fluorite but with excellent light transmission. The result is images of outstanding clarity in which chromatic aberration is virtually eliminated. The 2x glass mould and 1x Hybrid Aspherical components help to counteract astigmatism and field curvature throughout the zoom range.
This lens benefits too from having very high contrast even at wide apertures and superior peripheral brightness thanks to the Super Multi Layer Coating. This also acts to combat lens flare and ghosting.
