The Olympus TG-Tracker

It knows what’s up (and what’s down)

Olympus has equipped the Tracker with a 5-Field Sensor system that's able to detect all sorts of states and movements. An inbuilt compass can show you which way you're pointing when you're taking pictures or videos, while a GPS tracker records your precise location for tagging into your photos. A thermometer keeps track of temperature, while a barometer checks pressure and altitude (good for mountaineering fans) - and an accelerometer records the slightest movement along three axes.

These sensors can work together to automatically adjust your settings: if your camera detects water via the barometer and a change in atmospheric pressure, then it'll switch the white balance to one more fitting to submarine scenes, change your depth display and will pop up an icon on screen to tell you tvhat you're now shooting in underwater mode (though hopefully you'd have noticed this change occur…)

Cracking images every time

All that toughness doesn't mean your pictures will suffer: a Live MOS sensor and TruePic VII Image Processor captures glorious 8MP still images and 4K /Full HD video footage. Digital 5 Axis Image Stabilisation is also packed inside, helping to keep your shots steady, no matter how uneven your footing. A Digital IS was chosen over Optical Image Stabilisation to help keep the size of the camera down, but there's no compromise on quality: the sensor captures more than 8MP with every photo, so there's plenty of information available to create super-still shots with crisp detail.

A unique perspective

On the camera's front is a whopping 204° angle lens, promising you an almost fish-eye style view of your surroundings whether you're underwater or hurtling down a mountain-bike track. The lens will allow you to capture footage that gives you a real sense of place: perfect for sharing experiences with friends who couldn't be there at the time. Shooting after dark? The camera's built-in LED light helps you throw a little light on your subject without having to remember a separate torch or flashgun.

The TG-Tracker also comes with a handy grip for more comfortable shooting positions: you'll be able to capture footage and shots from eye-level, above your head or at waist height - or any other angle you can think of - with ease, while a flip-out LCD makes framing up your shots and reviewing footage a breeze.
