The Canon Range

Launches from Canon are always exciting, and these three updates are no exception to the rule. We've got a new mirrorless model - the EOS M6; an update to Canon's entry-level DSLRs, the EOS 800D; and a more advanced model in the form of the new EOS 80D DSLR. Let's have a look at all of them!

The EOS M6

The new EOS M6 promises to be 'big on quality' while also 'small in size', offering users the speed of a DSLR in a mirrorless body that's eminently portable and packed with features you'd expect to see on much larger, heavier cameras.

The EOS M6's autofocus uses Dual Pixel CMOS AF, which helps make it easy to switch focus points while shooting video or using Live View to compose photographs. You can capture images at up to 9 frames per second, and extra-quick response times means the M6 will be ready to go at a moment's notice.

Full HD movies are built in as standard, and with 5-axis in-camera stabilisation to help keep your shots steady, you can be sure your home movies and creative shorts will be of the utmost quality.

An optional electronic viewfinder gives you a wide, bright field of view, but if you prefer a Live View approach, the camera's touchscreen LCD makes it simple to switch settings and change focus point by dragging it across the screen.

And as you'd expect from a modern camera, built in Wifi and always-on Bluetooth image transfer makes getting photos to your phone or tablet almost instantaneous, for super-fast sharing. You can also take control of your camera from your phone and take pictures remotely using Canon's dedicated app.

There's a whole range of EOS M lenses available, which fit directly to the camera itself - and with the use of a separate adapter, you can work with EOS EF and EF-S lenses - of which there are hundreds.

The EOS 800D

That huge Canon lens line-up is one of the main reasons why you'd think about opting into the Canon family - and many newcomers to photography will be taking a very close look indeed at the new EOS 800D DSLR.

Designed to make picture-taking simple, while also guaranteeing the utmost quality images, this beginner-friendly camera contains all the technology and features you'd expect from a Canon: a 24.2 megapixel sensor for high levels of detail even in low light; 6-frames per second continuous mode and the 'world's quickest Live View AF system' which will focus your shot in just 0.03 seconds.

As most DSLRs do, the EOS 800D also has a bright and clear optical viewfinder, so you can see exactly what you're capturing on camera - along with all those lenses, as mentioned earlier, plus an entire world of Canon-compatible accessories.

Full HD movie capture has the same smooth focus movement and subject tracking thanks to Dual Pixel CMOS AF, and an in-body 5-axis Image Stabiliser helps keep longer shots sharp.

And when you're ready to share your work, in-built Wifi and always-on Bluetooth makes it super simple to get your pictures off your camera and onto your favourite image-sharing site - via your tablet or phone.

The EOS 77D

At the top of the heap of announcements sits the EOS 77D: Canon's camera for those who want to take their interest in photography a little more seriously.

An impressive 45-point autofocus system ensures fine level of control over image sharpness and point of focus, while a 24.2MP sensor delivers images packed with detail and ready for cropping or printing out.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF keeps focus locked even when shooting moving subjects, and you can refocus during video capture by tapping other areas of the Live View LCD screen on the camera's rear, creating a “pull-focus”-like effect.

The EOS 77D's been designed along the same lines as its forebears, with intuitive button layout and control so you won't have to interrupt shooting to change settings.

Canon's own Camera Connect app allows you to instantaneously transfer images to your phone or tablet using the EOS 77D's built-in Bluetooth, Wifi or NFC connectivity.

The 18-55 f/4-5.6 IS STM

Alongside this trio of cameras, Canon has also launched a new standard zoom lens: the 18-55 f/4-5.6 IS STM. At a weight of just 215g, this optic will be a great first choice for a new DSLR owner or someone looking to add a mid-range zoom to their kitbag for both stills and video capture.
