From Camera to Print - The digital process explained (New Course)

This course will provide an introduction to digital imaging from camera to printer. The course content will include information about digital cameras including manual and auto settings, white balance, ISO, etc. Importing files to a computer, storage, organising and sorting images will be discussed in full and an introduction to editing digital photographs using Adobe Photoshop will also be demonstrated. Additionally, the tutor will discuss the different methods of producing top quality prints and the basic principles or colour management.

Making a Start in Digital Nature and Wildlife

Where and how to photograph wild flowers, birds and other wildlife at home and abroad. The day will offer advice on working with digital files, storage, editing, backing up data and raw converting and the very basics of Photoshop. Part of the day will cover professional freelance wildlife photography and how to sell and market your images.
Students are invited to bring with them any prints or slides on which they would like help or advice.

Making a Start in Flash and Portraiture

All you need to know about producing top quality portraits using the latest flash photography techniques. The morning session will include advice and help on the use of small and medium non-auto and dedicated flash guns and professional studio flash equipment. The techniques of posing, lighting and exposure will be discussed together with a look at the best type of equipment to use.
Bring your own camera, tripod and film for the practical session, it must be able to connect to the studio flash units via either a PC socket or its hotshoe (some small compact cameras are not suitable for studio use.

How to set up a studio will be discussed and demonstrated in full. Plus information on amateur and professional studio flash units. Advise on all aspects of studio portraiture including lighting,posing, flash meters, backgrounds, studio props, cameras and film, etc. A limited amount of time will be available to photograph the attending model.

Making a Start in Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop is considered the industry standard photo manipulation programme. Adobe Photoshop will be demonstrated on this one-day course aimed at photographers. Te course will discuss the versions of Photoshop available and their differences. Photoshop Elements 5 and CS2 will be demonstrated during the day, including how to open files from different sources, scanning directly into Photoshop, useful image editing tools and what they do, selection methods, an introduction to what layers do, colour adjustment, file formats, re-sizing for printing and print quality.

Making a start in Landscape, Travel & Freelance Photography


This one-day course will cover the taking of successful photographs when travelling at home and abroad with particular attention to photographing landscapes, people, architecture and local culture. Freelancing and how to make money from photography using picture agencies, selling to magazines, etc. and basic social photography will be discussed. Relevant camera techniques will also be covered, along with advice on what to take, ideas on 'seeing' pictures and making the most of photographic opportunities whilst travelling.
