Panasonic Lumix S1H Mirrorless Camera Body

The Panasonic LUMIX S1H is the third model in the Panasonic LUMIX S series of full frame mirrorless cameras and is designed for videographers who want to step up to cinema-quality footage using a compact and lightweight camera. The S1H uses its 24.2-million-pixel sensor to shoot video in 6K resolution, and does so using the whole area of its full frame sensor.

Newly Designed Full-frame Sensor with Dual Native ISO Technology
The LUMIX S1H has a newly designed 24.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor featuring Dual Native ISO technology, resulting in minimal noise and outstanding image quality across the ISO range. Combined with the Venus Engine delivers a maximum ISO 51200 / Extended ISO 204800 for a cleaner image at higher sensitivities and a beautiful rendition of dark areas in the frame. In addition, the low-pass filter helps minimise moiré. Whenever low-light shooting is required, the S1H is ready for action.

Wide Range of Recording Formats to Support Every Type of Shoot
With its full range of recording modes, the LUMIX S1H has every industry covered, from cinema to TV broadcasting. In addition to C4K/4K 60p/50p* 4:2:0 10-bit and C4K/4K 30p/25p/24p 4:2:2 10-bit, the camera newly offers 6K/24p 4:2:0 10-bit in 3:2 and 5.9K 30p/25p/24p 4:2:0 10-bit in 16:9. Anamorphic mode in 4K is also available. Ultra-high image quality, flexibility, and expressiveness — the LUMIX S1H is ready for today’s demanding shoots.

4:2:2 10-bit internal recording/HDMI output
Featuring incredibly wide colour gamut, the S1H can record C4K 4:2:2 10 bit up to 30p internally. When 10-bit recording is selected, the camera delivers 4:2:2 10-bit HDMI output, making capture with an external recorder possible.

The 4:2:2 10-bit option has approximately 128 times the information of 4:2:0 8-bit and is capable of expressing over 1 billion colours. This massive volume of colour information is highly valuable for post-production, making it possible to creatively adjust colour to match the creative vision of the Director. Leveraging the expressive power of a full-frame camera takes 4K video to exciting new places.

V-Log/V-Gamut with 14+ Stops of Dynamic Range
Film-makers who choose the LUMIX S1H will enjoy accurate colour reproduction, subtle gradations from highlights to shadows, and precise colour control for post-production.
The S1H offers, a range of creative options including 14+ stops of dynamic range, and a very wide colour spectrum, while V-Log and V-Gamut come pre-installed, ensuring LUMIX S1H footage can be seamlessly edited with footage shot on a wide variety of cameras including VariCam.
The LUMIX S1H V-Log offers 14+ stops of dynamic range, which covers the PQ requirement of HDR, while V-Gamut covers the full HDR colour spectrum, giving users access to HDR shooting. As a further convenient touch, the LUT used is displayed on the camera monitor, for real-time feedback on the final output wherever, whenever.

First Fan Ever in a Full-frame Mirrorless Camera Supports Unlimited Video Recording
For the first time ever in a full-frame digital single-lens mirrorless camera, the LUMIX S1H incorporates a fan for optimum heat-dispersion — a feature typically found only on broadcast or cinema cameras. The fan is part of a newly developed body that allows unlimited video recording which causes minimal vibrations to effect image stabilization, and ultra-quiet performance without compromising the dust- and splash-resistant body design. The fan is designed to offer greater shooting flexibility through four different settings, including AUTO1 – which starts the fan soon after shooting starts to minimise heat and facilitate longer shots and AUTO2 - prioritizes quiet performance and minimises fan usage.

Shake-free video with 6.5-stop 5-axis Dual Image Stabilisation 2
This is an important one as it means you can get smooth wobble-free video without using a tripod or a gimbal. This isn’t exclusive to the S1H, and is the same system used in all the S cameras, but it is significant for a camera of this type. The previous LUMIX high-end video camera, the GH5s, doesn’t have in-body stabilisation, but this larger body will be able to make more use of it.

Bigger information display
The information display on the top plate of the camera has grown to make it even more easy to use, and so it can show more information. Cinema users are more likely than stills photographers to use a camera at waist level, so this look-down display is really useful. It can be set-up to suit stills, video and cinema photographers, and also can be backlit when shooting in dark conditions. The low-powered display remains on even when the camera is off, to show the space remaining on the memory card and the condition of the battery.

New vari-angle screen twists in all directions
A new design for the hinging mechanism on the rear screen allows users to both flip it up and to swing it out to the side – at the same time! Some videographers like a flip up screen and others like one that flips out to the side, and when they don’t get the screen action that they like they moan. Panasonic’s engineers have come up with a way to give everyone what they like best. The other advantage of this design is that the screen can be flipped and twisted without clashing with the remote, microphone, headphone, USB and HDMI cables that plug into the side of the camera.
