New Forest Photographic Break

New Forest Photographic Break

This three day residential break explores the majestic scenery of the New Forest National Park, whilst also offering streams, lakes and much more.

With the guidance of an on-hand Academy tutor, this experience offers the enthusiastic photographer a fantastic opportunity to capture sunrise and sunset images set against one of the most iconic back drops the UK has to offer.

The New Forest National Park has an abundance of photographic opportunities. With our help, this photographic break will give you the knowledge and knowhow to create and capture amazing landscape images at almost every angle.

DAY ONE

The experience mainly revolves around practical application, however day one will begin with a brief introduction and theory session in order to successfully plan the next few days. The Academy tutor will guide you through which settings to consider and how to achieve the very best composition. After a short photowalk through the local forests and Cadnams Pool, we will then make our way to the first sunset location - Milford on Sea, a picturesque seaside resort overlooking the Isle of Wight, where we will look at a variety of different photographic techniques including long exposures and using filters. The day will conclude with an optional astro photography / light painting experience in the grounds of the hotel. Transport to and from our locations will be fully provided by the tutor, in a dedicated Jessops Academy vehicle.

DAY TWO

Day two will begin bright and early with a short hike for sunrise over the New Forest heathland. We'll continue photographing throughout the day at some of the area's most iconic locations, including Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary and the beautiful Puttles Bridge. We'll then make out way to our second sunset gathering at the hotel where we can talk about photography, editing and getting the best from your shots.

DAY THREE

Day three will start with a short drive for sunrise at the lone tree of Bratley View, followed by going back to the hotel for breakfast and pack up and check out. We will then head out on a local photographic walk of Blackwater Woods, a short drive from the hotel.

A member of our award winning Academy Training Team will be on hand at all times to give advice and guidance on photographic equipment and knowledge. All of our trainers are experienced photographers and have a broad knowledge of all camera manufacturers and types, to ensure that you’re able to make the most of each day.

A previous knowledge of exposure - Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO is advisable for this experience. However, our expert academy tutor will be on hand to help with any settings you’re feeling less confident about to ensure you get the results you want.

You’ll need to ensure that each day you have:

  • Fully charged camera batteries (and any spares if you have them)
  • Memory cards with a large capacity to capture RAW files.
  • Lenses that offer a variety of focal lengths – a wide-angle lens for landscapes, and a long telephoto lens for any wildlife we may encounter.
  • A sturdy tripod, a remote shutter release and a circular polarizing filter are a must for spectacular landscape photography.

As this is an outdoor experience and we are visiting areas which will be on uneven terrain, it is advisable to bring warm waterproof clothing and protective footwear (waterproof walking boots are recommended). It’s worth noting that although the majority of our shoot locations are a short walk from our parking areas, the heathland sits approximately a 20-30 minute walk from the hotel, so be prepared for a short hike. With this in mind, good general fitness is required and of course, we will never leave a team member behind.
