Three Photography Projects to start this Christmas

The end of the year is both the perfect time to take stock on the past 12 months and start thinking about new projects.

Just because it's cold outside doesn't mean that your camera should get any less of a workout. In fact, the dark nights, twinkling lights, reunions with family members and more all make for the perfect subject. It can be difficult to come up with the inspiration you need to get going - which is why we've done the hard part for you. Here's some things to consider for the festive period - please do let us know how you get on!

1. Projects around the home

If the cold is putting you off getting outside - don't worry, there's plenty you can do indoors at this time of year. Believe it or not, your home is positively brimming with creative photography ideas, you just have to look.

You could try creating abstract macros from every day objects, go on an “A-Z treasure hunt” throughout the house - try to photograph something to match every letter of the alphabet, use a family or friends get together to work on your portrait technique, or refine your food photography with the abundance of Christmas produce which is likely to be overflowing from the kitchen.

Christmas fairy lights are perfect for experimenting with bokeh by shooting at different apertures, while there's usually plenty of “props”, aka Christmas decorations, which make for wonderful still life subjects.

2. Printed projects

The end of the year is the perfect time to take stock of everything you've achieved, done and celebrated over the past few months.

An ideal way to ensure you remember all your precious memories for years to come is with one of the many printed products Jessops offers. What's more, lots of those available make for perfect Christmas gifts, no matter what your budget.

Putting together a photobook is a great project for dark winter evenings. A range of different sizes, paper styles and layouts are available, giving you the flexibility to create exactly you want. There's also calendars, wall outs, prints, phone cases, greetings cards and lots more. Start browsing now to find your next printing project.
