Five Best Camera Buys

Get to the top of the nice list with these great gift ideas for photographers

Stuck for ideas of what to buy your photography loving friend or relative this year? There's a huge range of different options, with something to suit just about every budget. Have a look at some of the ideas below to get the ball rolling.

1. DSLR or Compact System Camera?

2017 has been a fantastic year for new camera releases. Some of the most exciting cameras ever made have made their way onto market, capable of some truly extraordinary things. There's the full-frame Sony A9 which can shoot at an incredible 20fps at full resolution, the Nikon D850 which marries together a super high-resolution with enough specs to keep action photographers happy, and the Panasonic G9 which can shoot at up to an amazing 60fps in a lightweight package which is ideal for travelling.

If you're feeling extremely generous, gifting one of these cameras will go down very well, but be sure to check out our complete range of cameras if your budget is a little smaller - there's something for everybody. Beginners may like the Canon EOS 1300D, while for wildlife enthusiasts, a camera like the Sony RX10 IV is ideal.

2. A compact for shooting on the go

Perhaps the photographer you know already has a camera and an extensive collection of accessories. But what about for those times when carrying a big camera just isn't convenient? Having a compact camera means you can always be ready to shoot, without necessarily compromising on image quality. Again, there's a range of price points - at the high end there's superb options like the Sony RX100 V and the Canon G1X Mark III, while the high zoom of cameras like the Panasonic TZ80 make it ideal for holidays.

3. A bag to carry it all in

A camera bag is always a welcome present - all that lovely gear needs protecting somehow. If your photographer friend's bag is looking a little sorry for itself, make someone's day by treating them to a new one. Jessops offers a huge range of different makes and models suitable for many different cameras and needs. Messenger type bags are great for shooting on the go, for photographers who need to change lenses quickly, while a backpack is ideal for carrying heavier equipment around. Prices start at just £12, so you should find something to suit your budget.

4. The view from above

Drone photography is increasing in popularity by the day - and it's one of the coolest gifts you can buy. We have lots of different drones available from Jessops, which should suit plenty of different skill levels. Always make sure to be careful when flying a drone, and observe the relevant laws.

5. Rediscover the art of printing

How many photos are destined to languish in the digital graveyard never to see the light of day again? A cute and quirky way to change that is with an Instax Share printer - simply connect the printer to your mobile to make quick and easy prints while on the go, ideal for parties and Christmas gatherings. There's two formats available - with the Instax Share SP-3 producing Square prints, reminiscent of those from days gone by.
