Established in 1937, Canon has grown into a global company operating in a diverse range of markets, including Business Solutions, Consumer Imaging, Broadcast & Communications, Medical Systems and Industrial Products.
An endless flow of ideas and innovation has kept Canon at the forefront of its industry. In choosing our products, businesses and consumers opt for reliable, stylish and advanced technologies.
Canon's corporate philosophy is Kyosei - a Japanese word that means living and working together for the common good - and this is a principle that is embraced by all Canon employees. It shapes our mission and our values, the way we treat our people and conduct our business. It embodies our goal of contributing to the prosperity of the world and the happiness of humanity.
As a global company with this philosophy at our heart, we work to realise our vision - that all people, regardless of race, religion or culture, can live and work together in harmony. This means taking responsibility for the impact of our activities, respecting our customers, the communities and countries we operate within, as well as our natural environment.
The Sunday Times 'Green List 2010' highlights the top 60 UK companies that are at the forefront of making real environmental change within their organisation.
Canon was ranked 33rd out of the Top 100 in the Interbrand & Business Week 2009 survey of the most valuable global brands
Canon has also been awarded Reader's Digest Most Trusted Camera Brand in Europe for 9 consecutive years
Canon was ranked 4th in the Fortune World's Most Admired Companies 2009 Industry ranking ('Computers' category).
Building upon a consistently successful history of innovation, we keep investing resources and energies in identifying and serving the future needs of mankind. Our Research and Development engineers have filed more than 600 patents in Europe. This provides Canon Europe with a strategic lead on our competitors.
The desire to discover: Canon's future success lies in the creation of extraordinary new products and we place enormous importance on research and development (R&D). The Advanced Technology Business Unit (ATBU) was established to create a strong marketing focus for all our R&D activities in Europe.
Technologies: For this reason Canon's broad yet highly consistent portfolio of advanced technologies, ranging from Visual Communication, to Information Interaction, to Mixed Reality and more, keeps evolving in line with what we expect the digital future to be.
Technology for New Business: Technology alone is not the key: the ability to further individual technology components by combining them with diverse contributions from various fields of research in order to develop tangible customer satisfaction is what has helped Canon stay successful thus far, and will keep driving our efforts in the years to come.
At Canon, we believe that considering the interests of society and the environment is an integral part of good business practice.
Our environmental strategy focuses on three core objectives: elimination of hazardous substances; resource conservation; and energy conservation. We continually assess how we can reduce the amount of packaging, hazardous and non-renewable materials used in our products. Canon also aims to reduce the environmental burden in all stages of a product's lifecycle, from production, to use and onto disposal via recycling.
